Our subjects

At our school, we teach the NSW curriculum and offer many different subjects to support each student’s learning. We know that development of skills in literacy and numeracy are the building blocks for learning and for everyday life. Our teachers use effective teaching strategies to help students achieve their goals.

Agriculture

Our students actively engage with both crops and animals, acquiring essential skills in planting, harvesting, animal husbandry, and farm management. This hands-on experience not only fosters their confidence but also enhances their competence in the field.

Creative arts

Tenterfield High School has a vibrant and varied Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) program. Students grow and develop their skills through Music and Drama performances and workshops, as well as Visual Arts exhibitions, competitions, and special enrichment activities.

English

Students learn about the English language through written, spoken and visual texts of increasing complexity as they progress through their schooling.

HSIE students

Human society and it's environment

Human Society and Its Environment (HSIE) is a key learning area in which both History and Geography are mandatory subjects from Kindergarten through to Year 10.

Mathematics

The study of mathematics is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10. By studying mathematics, students learn to work mathematically – developing fluency, understanding, problem-solving, reasoning and communication skills.

Personal Development, Health and Physical Education

Students explore issues of health, safety and wellbeing to develop skills and confidence through challenging and enjoyable movement experiences.

Science

Students learn about the natural and made worlds and how to apply scientific skills, knowledge and understanding across a broad range of contexts.

Technological and applied studies (TAS)

Our students are introduced to woodworking skills, engaging with a variety of tools, materials, and techniques throughout the design process. This is achieved through a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical lessons.

Helping students progress

We support every student’s academic progress by:

  • checking their progress and giving clear and timely feedback
  • setting learning goals with each student
  • giving extra help with personalised plans and support from specialist staff
  • reporting on each student’s learning progress so parents and carers know how their child is doing
  • providing targeted literacy and numeracy support in small groups
  • making wellbeing part of everyday learning
  • working with families to support learning at home and school
  • helping students through transitions, like starting school or moving to a new stage of learning.
